Chia Seeds...more Ultimate Raw Foods

Chia Seeds are truly a Raw Food Diet Superstar.

Chia Seeds have long been known as a historical "SuperFood"

The Indians of the southwest and Mexico used this tiny little seed as a staple food. Chia is known as the "running food," Chia Seeds are used as a high-energy endurance food and Chia Seed use has been recorded as far back as the ancient Aztecs.

All it took was for Dr. Oz to appear on the Oprah show and recommend Chia seeds and now Chia Seeds are Hot!...and they can be expensive. The Dr. Oz seeds are pretty pricy. Be sure and read to the end and there will be some less expensive sources.

The big controversy seems to be which type of Chia Seed is the best, White or Black?

SALBA a Canadian importer of White Chia seeds claims that all of the human nutritional studies show that White Chia seeds have the highest nutrient content. It seems Salba funded those studies.

Others claim that all Chia seeds are the same and variations of nutrients are a function of growing conditions and climate.

Recently I received a promotional brochure from NorthStar Nutritionists promoting the Salba brand of White Chia Seeds. First, in my opinion NorthStar Nutritionals are the kings of product hype. However, upon further research I am convinced that Chia Seeds are a fantastic addition to the raw food diet...In fact Chia Seeds may be the single most nutritious addition to a raw food diet.

Some interesting Salba Brand (white chia seeds) claims:

6 TIMES MORE CALCIUM THAN MILK
15 TIMES MORE MAGNESIUM THAN MILK
3 TIMES MORE ANTIOXIDANTS THAN FRESH BLUEBERRIES
MORE PROTEIN THAN SOY

I purchased Salba at my local discount vitamin retailer for about $24.00 for 16oz. A special offer because the normal bottle holds 12oz.

A new favorite source for Raw Food information and products has White Chia Seeds for less than $13 for a pound bag. They also have it in 5lb bags which brings the cost per pound even lower. Click here Everything you Need to Learn Raw and Live Raw

At some point I may switch to the considerably lower priced black Chia Seeds but I will always have Chia Seeds as a daily Ultimate Raw SuperFood.
