Raw Food Diet May Cause Iodine Deficiency

Raw Food Diet Iodine Deficiency?

If you're vegan or vegetarian, you may want to consider upping your Iodine levels.

Iodine content in food of plant origin is lower in comparison with that of animal origin due to a low iodine concentration in soil. Urinary iodine excretion was assessed in 15 vegans, 31 lacto- and lacto-ovo vegetarians and 35 adults on a mixed diet. Iodine excretion was significantly lower in alternative nutrition groups - 172 µg/l in vegetarians and 78 µg/l in vegans compared to 216 µg/l in subjects on a mixed diet.

One fourth of the vegetarians and 80% of the vegans suffer from iodine deficiency (iodine excretion value below 100 µg/l) compared to 9% in the persons on a mixed nutrition. The results show that under conditions of alternative nutrition, there is a higher prevalence of iodine deficiency, which might be a consequence of exclusive or prevailing consumption of food of plant origin, no intake of fish and other sea products, as well as reduced iodine intake in the form of sea salt.

The article above is from the Global Light Network Newsletter. Global Light Network is a source for many alternative products and suppplements including an Iodine supplement "Detoxified Iodine" Based on Edgar Cayce's formulation of Atomidine and through a proprietary process, Detoxified Iodine is 99 percent bio-available. http://www.globallight.net/

Detoxified Iodine:
DETOXIFIED IODINE is totally different from the typical toxic iodine in its denser state sold as an antiseptic, or as iodine tri-chloride (claiming to be atomized), or as added to potassium iodine to make it safer. It is also unlike glandular or prescriptions containing hormones that take over the thyroid’s job, instead of nutritionally building the thyroid to do its own job. Seaweed, seafood, greens and raw sunflower seeds, are good sources for iodine but may not have the levels necessary to support the thyroid fully for good homeostasis in the body.

Detoxified Iodine is extracted from edible seaweed in Japan. It is well known in the industry that Japan produces some of the best Iodine in the world. Once the Iodine is obtained and sent to the US, it is then processed with our proprietary process, which changes the Iodine into Detoxified Iodine. You don’t have to take shot-glasses full of standard Iodine to get improvement. Just take drops of Detoxified Iodine and see the result. You get 200mcg of Iodine absorbed into your body for every drop you take.
