How To Start A Raw Food Diet! - Nurse's Guide by Helen Hecker
If you're thinking about adopting a healthier diet than the one you're eating now, you may have thought about starting a raw food diet. Maybe you're eating the standard American cooked food diet or maybe it's a fairly healthy diet but you'd like to eat even healthier. Maybe the hard part is knowing just how to start a raw food diet or what to eat. In any case you'll be healthier by incorporating more living or raw foods into your diet.
One of the best ways to start out is just by slowly adding fruits and vegetables to your current diet. You can add three or four fruits to your breakfast meal and/or have an all-fruit smoothie. Your smoothie can be an all fresh fruit combination of fresh and frozen. Although fresh is best. You can use 2 bananas for a base and add to it. For lunch you can have a small salad or cole slaw and more fruit along with what you would normally have.
In any case you want to eat all your raw food first so you don't leave much room for other foods that are cooked. The raw food will be better for you. You'll find you start craving certain fruits and vegetables after eating them for awhile.
For dinner you can have a huge, I mean enormous salad. Use red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce, romaine, spring mix or spinach leaves as a base then add a cut up tomato and avocado and any other vegetables you like. Eat this first before any of your dinner food. This is my main course at dinner time. I usually don't have room for much else and if I do I still only have raw fruit or other raw foods.
For snacks in between meals you can have any kind of fruit, fruit smoothies, green smoothies, green juice or carrot juice, raw nuts or raw desserts of which there are many you can make easily.
Of course these are just a few ideas. There are lots of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds to choose from and hundreds of raw food recipes you can make.
The most important thing is to just start. It does not have to be complicated and you don't have to follow a raw food diet plan or program. There is no right or wrong way. There are dozens of way to eat a vegan, raw food diet.
